3rd Grade Language Arts

The Good and the Beautiful Language Arts – Grade 3

We discovered the Good and the Beautiful curriculum years ago and I’ve been happy using it for several years since Kindergarten for my daughter. She is delighted with the language arts curriculum. It’s the only curriculum that we use that is not secular, just as a preference but we are enjoying it.

If I were not using their curriculum, for my boys, we use both the First Language Lessons for grammar and Writing with Ease for writing.

3rd Grade Spelling Curriculum

All About Spelling

We love their spelling program because it teaches phonics rules and allows for repetition and the hands-on work with the tiles makes it fun for the kids since they don’t have to write out everything for kids who are not fans of writing yet.

3rd Grade Math Curriculum

Singapore Dimensions Math 3A 3B

We love Singapore Math for math-loving kids who don’t need a lot of repetition and grasp math well. I use it with both of my younger kids who do enjoy math more and do well with it.

Saxon Math

My oldest who struggled more with math, needed more practice and we used Saxon 3 with him and he did really well with it. We did not do both worksheets each day if he grasped the concept we went on to the next lesson the next day.

3rd Grade History Curriculum

We start Story of the World 1 in 2nd grade and then do a book each year. The Story of the World 2: Middle Ages is a favorite for the boys because of all of the weapons in the middle ages that were used.

3rd Grade Science Curriculum

I haven’t found a science that I love for all of my kids. We’ve always used lapbooks or notebooking on my kids’ chosen topic. My daughter wanted to learn more about airplanes and my son wanted to do messy science experiments.

You can have so much fun here. I like the lapbooks and notebooks from Homeschool Share.

Computer Programming

We love Scratch coding and how they have a drag and drop system for their coding blocks that helps them design games.

Since they are working on the computer more, I do have them do typing. I start with Dance Mat Typing to make it fun and then they move to Typing Club which is both free.
