Fun Facts about Fall

As kids head back to school and the days start to get shorter, there’s no denying that summer is coming to an end. But don’t despair—fall is an amazing time of year, full of cool weather, beautiful leaves, and festive holidays. Here are just a few fun facts about this wonderful season.

Did you know that fall is actually the second spring? That’s because it’s a time when plants go into overdrive, producing fruit and seeds for the next generation. Leaves falling from trees may look like they’re dying, but they’re actually part of the plant’s reproductive process.

Fall is also a busy time for animals as they prepare for winter. Squirrels gather nuts, birds migrate south, and bees collect pollen to make honey. Some animals even change their fur color to blend in with the falling leaves!

Of course, fall wouldn’t be complete without pumpkins. These orange vegetables are actually fruits, and they’re part of the gourd family, which includes cucumbers and watermelons. Pumpkins have been grown in North America for over 5,000 years, and they were once used as currency by Native Americans.

From harvest festivals to Halloween to Thanksgiving, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate fall. So get out there and enjoy the cooler weather, changing leaves, and all the other wonders of this wonderful season!

since we live in the hot south, fall is finally a time we can comfortably eat outside, exercise outdoors without heat exhaustion and such! it’s not cold here, just cooler, so we go out more and still swim, go hiking, etc.
