Take a look at this beautiful set of lacing cards. They have pictures of pets with a color border. The laces match the borders. This is a great opportunity to mention that to your preschooler and practice matching colors. The object of this activity is to teach the child the art of lacing. Take the lace and feed it through the hole. There are two ways of doing it: feeding it from top to bottom or from bottom up.Fine Motor Skills ~ Lacing
Look at the picture below of an awesome lacing activity. My daughter loves these lacing activities and does them often. She is practicing the looping lace. It goes like this: 1. feed the lace from the bottom up 2. pull the lace up until there is only about 3 inches left 3. take the tip of the lace and feed it from the bottom up 4. pull the lace until the lace is taut and on it goes. My 4-year old’s first step was to learn the “stitch” lacing, which is exactly what it sounds like. It goes like this: 1. take the tip of the lace 2. feed it from the bottom up 3. pull the lace up until there is only about 3 inches left 4. feed the lace from the top down to the bottom 5. pull the lace until the lace is taut.Other Fine Motor Skills for Preschoolers
