With spring in the air, I start thinking about the warmer summer weather, and then my mind goes towards bathing suit season. Well, after those long and cold winters, exercise for me basically comes to a halt. However, spring means I can get outside for a run, we can go on family walks and hikes so we all increase our physical activity this time of the year.
I know I’ve spent way much time at the computer and the couch with my late night snacks, or chocolate, or buttery garlic bread or both. So now’s the time I start saying yes to more avocado, bananas and spinach.
I know I do my best to ensure the kids get a healthy dose of fruit and veggies but sometimes that can become a battle. That’s why I love having healthy options that also taste amazing as well.
This parfait was my idea of packing in the most protein, calcium and vitamins into a tiny jar for my little people to consume without complaining.
Strawberry Yogurt Parfait Supplies

- Strawberries – chopped
- Sliced bananas

Strawberry Yogurt Parfait Directions
I like having the kids make their own because it’s so easy to put together and they can add they things they love.
- Add your yogurt of choice, I had strawberry, and add a layer of cottage cheese.
- Top with the sliced bananas and chopped strawberries.
- Repeat the layers
- Top with the walnuts
This snack is a wonderful way to add protein, calcium and fruit to your child’s diet, hello home run for you mom. You can also make it ahead and keep it in the fridge for easy breakfast ideas. I like using the small mason jars because it’s the perfect portion size and I can seal it overnight and have it ready to eat the next day. Not to mention the fact that they’re quite durable.
I will have to admit that my kids are not fans of cottage cheese, they don’t like the consistency of it. That’s why I like to mix it with yogurt, they get the added benefit and calcium and protein to their diet without sacrificing taste. It also goes well in lasagna, another of the children’s favorite dishes.
The wonderful thing about parfaits is that you can substitute any toppings for what you have in your fridge right now. We love adding avocados, blueberries, raspberries or granola. Dried fruits like raisins and cranberries also add a great texture but my kids absolute favorite is strawberries.
