Exciting Exploding Tea Party

Looking for a fun spin on your daily tea party? Why not create this Exciting Exploding Tea Party instead? It’s a super fun way to make it fizzy and exciting and certain to have the kids joining in on all the fun.

If you like this experiment, your kids should try the activities from my bigger list of fun Summer Activities for Kids.

Whenever I am coming up with ideas for activities for the kids I love to put a unique spin on a basic idea. One of our favorite hands-on science activities is baking soda and vinegar, the fizzing reaction always sets off squeals and giggles every time we bring it out.

This time, instead of putting our mixture in the typical bowl or pan I thought it would be fun to set it out as an exciting exploding tea party using my daughter’s favorite tea set.

You should have seen the look on her face! She was surprised but loved every minute of it! She couldn’t wait for another tea time to do this simple STEM activity again.

Sometimes messy play is the best play – and totally worth the mess! (although, if you’re careful, you can create it so that it’s mess-free and so much fun!)

How to Create this Exploding Tea Party Activity

The first step is to fill the teapot with vinegar and then fill the teacups with baking soda

Add a few drops of food coloring (optional). If you are nervous about regular food coloring you can use this natural powder food coloring in place of the drops.

Exciting Exploding Tea Party

Let your kids join in on the fun by pouring the “tea” into the teacups. You can also place the saucers on top leaving just a crack to pour vinegar into and see if you can get it to bubble away.

Try using different amounts of vinegar and baking soda and see what happens.
